The Olds Motor Vehicle Company was founded by Ransom E. Olds in 1897. The company began production of the Curved Dash Oldsmobile in 1901, which was a gas-powered, open-carriage vehicle priced around $650. The Curved Dash was a popular car throughout the years, which is what caught the eye of GM and caused them to acquire the company. The company was bought by GM in 1908 and the Oldsmobile division continued delivering high quality vehicles as the years passed. The brand made history when it created the first full automatic transmission in 1940 used for mass-marketed vehicles. The first turbocharged engine and front-wheel drive vehicle were also produced by the brand in the United States during the 60s. Sales were soaring through the 70s and 80s. These numbers eventually declined, however, which caused GM to announce that Oldsmobile vehicles would no longer be in production. In 2004, the last car was made.
